Mari Melilot & Pickles Pattern Launch

Mari Melilot and Pickles met up a while back, after a mutual fascination for each others design and techniques. Both Melilot and Pickles work a lot with colours and have a playful approach to design. They decided to develop a concept where knitters are invited to take out their sewing machines and sewers to find their knitting needles. The goal was to make something simple and accessible for everyone. To make the projects interesting for the experienced knitters and sewers, they’ve spiced it up with fun techniques for all levels.

They have put together a fun and colourful collection of knitting and sewing patters being presented for the first time at the festival Opening Party!

Tickets to Opening Party available from 22 June, 10:00

Knitting History — From the Past to the Present

The Knitting History Exhibition shows the history of knitting from it was introduced in Norway in the beginning of the 1600s, until the present day. The exhibit shows examples of rural types of knitting, in addition to knitted garments from urban areas, as well as various knitting implements, such as chatelaines, yarn hooks and knitting needles.

The exhibition is free with your museum entry ticket and open during museum opening hours.

Also join the free, drop-in, Guided Tours by curator Birte Sandvik Saturday and Sunday (Norwegian only). Times to be announced!

Folk Dress — Festive Dress and Workwear

Norway has a diverse folk dress tradition. “Folk dress” describes clothing worn by rural people in pre-industrial times. The use of bunad started when Norway got independent toward the end of the 19th century, and there was a strong focus on rural culture in the construction of a new Norwegian identity. Bunads are clothes with historical elements, used today only for festive occasions. There are approximately 500 different types of bunads in production today, and more than 60% of Norwegian women own a bunad! Traditional Samí clothing is neither characterized as folk dress nor as bunad. An unbroken tradition exists in Samí culture and, even though Samí gákti is constantly changing, some medieval traits remain.

The Folk Dress exhibition is free with museum entry ticket, and open during museum opening hours.

Free, drop-in Guided Tours Saturday and Sunday by curator Kari-Anne Pedersen in Norwegian and English. Times to be announced!

Garnaktiviteter for barn
